Julie Bellem passed away June 1, 2015 from breast cancer. She was the wife of my pledge brother, Matt Bellem, and one of the most amazing people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Julie wasn't a half glass full person, she was a glass is always full person. She battled her cancer with more grace and dignity than anything I have ever seen and I felt compelled to do something more than to offer condolences and walk away. Julie loved the University of Georgia and even more, the Georgia Bulldogs. Another event she became a huge supporter of was the 60 mile walk for Susan G Komen. I thought what better than to merge the two into a hybrid event to raise money for a cancer research fund, www.bcrfcure.org, chosen by her husband and brother. I along with my brother in law will ruck 68.25 miles from Athens to Atlanta in approximately 24 1/2 hours. We will carry a 37 lb sandbag to symbolize Julie's age at death and we will each carry 10 lbs for the combined ages of her children and length of fight. This will happen starting early Friday morning November 27, 2105 and end early November 28, 2015. The significance of this weekend is it is the Georgia vs Georgia Tech game and the last game of the regular season. Julie never got to stop and say enough and she never said "I quit." Therefore, we will not stop and we will not quit until we have arrive at our destination. Please help us honor this amazing women by donating your our event.
