THE STORY:

April 15, 2013 I had the pleasure of running my third Boston Marathon.

The day could not have been more perfect.  As I watched the spectators, I thought to myself, "One day, I will bring my grandkids to see me run this race.  There's something historic and really special about it".

I was overcome with emotion at the finish.  I fought hard to capture another PR on this race.  I gave it my all.  My finish time was a 3:47:54 (50 seconds better than my best race).

Not twenty minutes later, as I made my way back to my hotel, I heard the sound of a blast.  The immediate reaction was:  "That was a transformer blowing"...Then there was a second blast...not two blocks away. Suddenly, I saw people running away from the finish line area. I will never forget the face of a man running carrying a small child--no older than my oldest granddaughter.  I made my way to my hotel, not knowing fully what had happened...It was in the hours to come that I went from being jubilent, to being sick.  With each passing hour, I learned of the devastation.

Within days, people began to ask..."Will you run again?"  My immediate response was:  "Without a doubt...because good will always overcome evil.  I will not be deterred.  The people of Boston will not be deterred."

This running of the Boston Marathon (2014) will be particularly special to me because of what it stands for...The spirit of the marathon, of the fine people of Boston, and, of this country that we are blessed to live in.

This race will be important to me as an individual, but, more impactful because I've had the distinct pleasure of being asked to race on behalf of Jumpstart for Young Children 2014 Boston Marathon.  It's an opportunity for me to do something meaningful in honor of those who did not make it home from the 2013 race, those injured, and on behalf of their families.

I hope you will consider supporting my effort.  NO AMOUNT IS TOO SMALL.  $1, $5, $10... I have an aggressive goal in mind.  The funds will go to support this country's most important resource...our children.

Thanks, in advance for your genorosity

In honor of those whose lives were so sadly impacted by the tragic events of the 2013 Boston Marathon. May their spirits (or their family's spritis) be lifted in knowing that the essence of the Boston Marathon, the fine citizens of Boston, and, of this most beautiful country is stronger than ever! May our most precious resource, the young children of this county, be fortunate to know that 4 years ago
