junk + jungle
Organized by: Nell Blymiller
One of the most interesting things I've taken away from my lectures in business school is that many non-profit organizations struggle for the simple fact that they are non-profit. Their business models are not designed for future growth and expansion. It is being said that if charities took a for-profit approach, philanthropy would be making much more progress than it currently is. The organization I would like to create would be classified in California as an SPC (social purpose corporation, per CA Corporations Code 2600-2605). For a little more information on SPC organizations, check out this great article.
JUNK+JUNGLE is a sanctuary that is part awesome jungle gym for cats, and part awesome shopping experience for humans. On the front (business) end, JUNK+JUNGLE will operate a specialty thrift / vintage / consignment boutique, with profits going back into the company to drive growth on the back (charity) end. Patrons will also be able to visit the sanctuary (AKA the Jungle) if they are considering adoption or if they just want to spend some time with the cats. There will also be areas dedicated to state-of-the-art veterinary facilities and a nursery. In the mean time, we are setting up an online store to get things rolling.
Your donation will help us acquire property, create our sanctuary, establish our brand, promote our cause, and continue growing until every single homeless pet is off the streets. I believe that there are other people out there that have a passion for helping innocent animals and I want to encourage those people to believe that this is NOT an impossible feat. We can save them all.
