Welcome to our fundraising page. We are Kathleen and Danielle, two working moms in Chicago who are committed to making a difference for the residents of Flint Michigan who are dealing with the water crisis. Currently in Flint, people's pipes are still corroded and the water moving through those pipes is still not safe to drink. What's predictable is that as the media attention about Flint dies down so will the support for the people of Flint. Donations of water and money to assist with the long term effects are likely to decline as well. That's not okay with us. If there was a steady stream of money available the people of Flint could manage their needs. From the need for fresh water to the medical follow ups which will be necessary, especially for the children who drank the water. Exposure to lead causes a variety of health issues. The effects of lead on the human body are permanent and there is no cure. It is especially hazardous for children. There are programs in Flint that have been set up to address the problems that these children will face as they grow. We want to support everyone effected by this crisis. We can only imagine the horror parents feel knowing that preparing food or bathing their children may have caused life long health issues for their children. We are raising money for The United Way of Genesee County because the dollars raised have a larger impact than they would if we just raised money and drove it to Flint. For each dollar given to the United Way Campaign, two additional dollars are invested in the community. The point is, they are waaay better at fundraising than we are! Also the money raised stays in Genesee County. That's where Flint is and we think that's important. Again, they are waaay better at this that we are! The United Way of Genesee County set up The Flint Water Fund, for the purchase of filters, bottled water, emergency support services and prevention/intervention efforts. 100% of the fund is used for these projects and no Administrative Fee is assessed. After the short-term need of Flint residents has been met, any remaining funds will be directed to the Flint Child Health and Development Fund of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint. How cool is that?!?! Join us and let's help them!!
