Justice for Jax
Organized by: Tina Viau
I am asking the public's help to get justice for my dog Jax. On February 23 my son and I came home after work to find our door wide open. Thinking that our beloved dog Jax ran away, I set out to look for him. I came back in the house only to find him dead lying in a pool of his own blood. I immediately called the police. My son checked to make sure Jax was no longer breathing and he wasn't. When the police arrived they examined the dog and the house. They stated that since there was no forced entry and because I was upset and called my daughter, they said that there was no crime scene due to the amount of people in the house. The one officer stated "it was just a dog".I then tried to get in contact with various people to come and examine Jax since we only have a vet that comes to town once a week. I have no vehicle and therefore could not drive him anywhere myself. I received no response. I then proceeded to contact the nearest humane society for their advice and assistance. They agreed to pay for an X-ray as long as I could bring my baby to them. My son borrowed a vehicle and took the day off work to bring him down. Almost a week later and after several calls, I got the results of the X-ray. There were no broken bones or fractures and no foreign objects found in him. They informed me that there was no evidence of foul play so therefore they could no longer help me. I did however have the option to send him for an autopsy for animals in Guelph. Here is my dilemma and why I am asking for your assistance. In order to have the dog examined I must first send him there using a courrier service and the starting fees alone is over 500$. I called the university in Guelph to get an an estimate and they told me that I would be looking at about 1500$ to have him fully examined. Once the examination is done they do not release the animal unless it is to a private cremation service in which they charge a 30$ per day holding fee. I want my baby Jax back home with me so that will be an additional cost as well as the fee to ship his remains back home. I strongly feel that someone came into my home and either startled my dog while trying to rob my home or just came in with intentions on killing him for whatever reason. The police will not open up an investigation unless I have proof that Jax did not get hit by a car. This is why I need to send him for these tests. I need to find out what happened to my baby, my best friend and my sons brother. Jax was a 1 year and 4 month old king shepherd chocolate lab cross. He was very energetic, loved his bath and got along so well with my granddaughter. He was my baby. He was always there for me and I think doing this for him is the right thing to do. So please help me have peace of mind, some closure and justice for Jax.
