THE STORY:

Hello, my name is Freddie and I’m trying to raise money to get my uncle Jerome ‘Skee’ Smith funds to produce a documentary. My uncle was sentenced to life without parole in 1985 when he was only 15. Quite cruel, don’t you think? However, the cruelest thing is that he was found guilty of a murder he did not commit… It all happened because the prosecutor hid key evidence of Jerome’s innocence! This evidence was revealed in 2001, 15 years after the trial. Since then our family and Jerome himself have been doing everything possible to free him. Let me tell you what happened in 1985. On October 29, 1985, Bill Long, a popular Freret Street bakery owner, was murdered. The shooting occurred somewhere around 4.15 p.m. At this time Jerome was with his mother; they had arrived at the Youth Study Center. There were witnesses who testified to this fact. However, it all didn’t matter. It didn’t matter that Jerome was 6 ft 1, and that he had Jheri curls, although one witness said the killer was 5 ft 1, and another said he had straight hair. The thing that mattered most was that Jerome was Black and he had previous altercations with the police. Jerome was arrested the following day…. During the initial trial, key evidence was hidden by the prosecutor and it led to the conviction… As a result, my uncle has already spent 31 years in prison. What does these 31 years mean for him? This innocent man could finish school, go to college, start a family, and have children. His children would have been teenagers by now. He could have become a famous basketball player as he was quite good at it in school… However, my uncle has spent these 31 years in prison… I truly believe that justice must always prevail. That’s why I’m asking for your help to hire Jerome a lawyer who will be able to help him become a free man and a production them to do a documentary on his life. Don’t let another wrongfully convicted man die in prison! Think of how many great things you have done and experienced for 31 years and how many things he hasn’t been able to do and experience…Jerome needs your help…for More information visit http://wrongfullyconvictedpeople.com/
