The Reality of Police Brutality
Team Member: Jenn Daily
There is no more egregious crime than one committed by those who are supposed to protect. Over 9 years ago, my daughter was assaulted by Virginia Beach police officer R. R. Ray, simply because she happened to answer his knock on the door at her friends house. He broke her ribs, damaged her neck and shoulder, and pulled a fist full of hair from her head.
Amanda now suffers, among other things, from PTSD. Additionally, she will need to undergo treatment, most likely for the rest of her life, for illness and injuries that are a direct result of this assault.
She has not "gone public" with her legal (civil) battle with the city of Virginia Beach becasue she did not want a media frenzy. Unfortunately, literally on the eve of her finally going to trial, her attorney suffered an extreme health emergency and has been forced to give up practicing law.
She must now find another attorney who will finish (try) the case. She has found a great lawyer, but does not have all the funds needed for the retainer.
Please help Amanda get justice, and to stop this officer from harming anyone else. Your donation will be greatly appreciated. If you are a lawyer licensed to practive in Virginia, and can try a case in the 4th District Federal court and would be willing to help, please let us know. A panel of 3 federal judges has written an opinion on her case that is very favorable to Amanda.
