Hi everyone. My name is Elena, and I am fundraising on behalf of my brother, Ryan. Ryan has recently exposed that he may have been a victim of violence. He told us that one day after a blow to the head, "Everything went bright." That was my baby brother's way of telling us that he could no longer see out of one of his eyes. As it turns out, when we went to the doctor, it was revealed that Ryan's retina was completely detached from his eye. He is 14 years old. We ruled out genetic causes for the detachment, and he has since undergone surgery. They had to remove the lens of his eye as well because he also had a cataract so big that he could not see. Right before my brother went into surgery, he prayed over himself and said, "God you call me beloved and say that I am your child. Please don't let them take my eye." Pretty profound for a child with Down Syndrome, if you ask me. And pretty sad too. I had to assure him multiple times that they didn't take his eye out in surgery. He was so scared :( He knows that the time has come to tell his story. I am raising money for Ryan's current and future well-being so that he can embark on the path to healing. He will not be able to play the sports he loves for a very long time. He has had to give up so much already as a result of this trauma. I want to give him some of his life back, and I would love if you could help! We will be going to court to fight on his behalf, and this whole process is very trying for him. I initially wanted to raise money for court fees, but we are not allowed to do that - a fact of which I was unaware. This money will be going directly to Ryan and will be deposited into a savings account for him. The road to healing is a long one, and he is going to need a lot of help along the way. Picture you suffer a trauma. Now picture how this is compounded because God made you so very special. He spent a little extra time on you, and so the way you see the world is different. We call it special needs. I call it special people.
If you would like to donate, we would be very appreciative. He loves spending time with horses, and horses are great with kids with special needs. At the very least, I would like for him to be able to spend time with the animals he loves. Depending on what kind of funding we get, we will go from there. I am changing the focus of this campaign to raise money for a child that has been victimized and will need emotional help on the road to healing. That's more important anyway.
