BENEFITING: KIKULU FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Sep 07, 2014
What could be more challenging than conquering an Ironman Triathlon (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bicycle ride, and a 26.2 mile run...in that order without a break?!) I believe providing quality education to children in the developing world often times presents a greater challenge! On a daily basis, The Kikulu Foundation and its team works tirelessly on the challenge of supporting quality education for children in Uganda.
The Kikulu Foundation is a non-profit organization supporting global education through primary and secondary scholarships for orphaned children in rural Uganda as well as providing materials and resources for children and schools in rural Ugandan communities. With our support, children receive access to quality education. 50% of the children we support are girls and our committed team works tirelessly to pay forward the gift of education. On September 7th, I will conquer Ironman in Wisconsin. Ironman consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, then a marathon, 26.2 for a grand total of 140.6 miles of human exertion representing the 140 children we support through the efforts of The Kikulu Foundation. I have been training for months spending twenty hours a week. I completed a half Iron Man in Austin last fall at 70.3 miles and after that decided I would go all in for the full Iron Man to advocate and raise awareness for others who have overcome tremendous challenges to receive an education.
The Ironman Triathlon is widely considered one of the most difficult one-day sporting events in the world. I will compete in this race in order to raise $1406.00 ($10 for every mile conquered!).
100% of your tax-deductible contribution will go towards supporting education for children in Uganda. None of your donations will go toward my personal race or transportation fees. By donating $100 or more you will receive personalized thank-yous from our students (if you choose to email me your address upon submitting your donation). Our students deeply appreciate the generous gifts we receive from people like you.
This is an incredible opportunity for you to contribute to a cause that will have a tangible and long lasting impact on the lives of children in a resource starved part of the world. A donation of any size – big or small-- would be appreciated.
Running is usually an individual sport. But this will be a team effort. You can learn more about the race at: http://m.ironman.com/triathlon/events/americas/ironman/wisconsin
