THE STORY:

Mission:

The mission of the Chill Foundation is to provide opportunities for at-risk and underserved youth to build self-esteem and life skills through board sports.

Brief History:

Established in 1997 by the owners of Burton Snowboards, Jake and Donna Burton Carpenter,

The Chill Foundation is a not for profit organization which utilizes board sports as a vehicle to provide life and character development skills to underserved youth. Operating in 14 cities in

North America, as well as cities in Austria, Australia and Italy, we work to change the lives of thousands of youth every year.

What We Do:

Chill Chicago serves more than 70 kids each winter. Using snowboarding to motivate youth to accomplish goals they never thought they could, we teach them some of the most important lessons in life about patience, persistence, responsibility, courage, respect, and pride – our weekly themes within the program.

We provide everything they need for the six-week experience: lift tickets, instruction, bus transportation, and gear (boards, bindings, boots, jackets, pants, gloves, and helmets). Because each participant has the chance to go once a week for six weeks, they all learn to snowboard.

Therefore, they all succeed.

This success, and the self-confidence that goes along with it, is important to these kids who may not have had much success in many other areas of life. In fact, the challenges and victories they find on the mountain easily translate into valuable life lessons that each takes home to help achieve positive outcomes at school, neighborhoods, and communities.

Since our inception, Chill has positively impacted over 18,000 at-risk and underserved youth.
