BENEFITING: Womens Cancer Research Foundation
I am not your typical marathon runner. It was not a childhood or adolescent dream, nor was I a born athlete. My love of distance running has only developed over the past few years & I can tell you has very little to do with running itself. It was after a particularly difficult time & family tragedy that I began to run. I started as a dedication to my Mother; who was a Personal Trainer and local NY fitness guru. Growing up she taught me how to channel my (rather spirited youth) energies into a positive place -into physical fitness. I learned to challenge myself to build a better me; and, how to appreciate an entire world of beauty with every step of every course. (-A world that we are often simply too busy to notice.) Over these past 2 yrs, running has become my fight, my meditation, my peace. I run in parallel and to inspire; but most of all.. I run because somewhere in that journey it's running that lets me see her again.
I will representing Long Island City in the Staten Island Half Marathon (last of the 5borough series) and (and my 1st) ING NYC Full Marathon.
No long stories or dramtic recaps. ..simply put there are people in need. And it's my goal to race for them.
This event's charity will go to:
Women’s Cancer Research Foundation (WCRF)
The WCRF has developed into a comprehensive research facility, or as founding Dr. Micha says, “a one-stop shop,” which provides uncompromising continuity of care and superior treatment for all of their patients afflicted with gynecologic and breast cancer.
