Dear Friends, Family and Community,
I have a goal of raising $800 for Jewish Youth for Community Action (JYCA). Will you help me reach this goal? JYCA is an organization I have been a part of for the past 16 years since I was in high school. JYCA is a leadership training and social justice program for Bay Area high school students. As a 15-year-old participant in the program, JYCA taught me the leadership skills to build my confidence and work for social justice from an oppression/liberation framework while connecting these values to my Judaism. I had the opportunity to work on political campaigns against the criminalization of youth, participate in protests and actions as a visible young Jewish person, and take on leadership roles that were challenging and empowering as a young person.
For the past 9 years I have been involved in many social justice movements, working as an organizer with healthcare workers, service workers, low-income tenants and domestic workers as well as working on many political campaigns. Everyday I use the skills I learned in JYCA to do this work and I don’t believe I would be where I am if it wasn’t for JYCA supporting me as a young person to become a leader.
When I graduated from college and moved back to the Bay Area, I joined the JYCA board to give back to the organization that put me on the path to the work I do now. I am going into my 10th year on the JYCA board and have seen years of incredible youth go through the program and go on to do amazing work. Everyday I am inspired by the work and leadership of both JYCA youth and JYCA alumni.
JYCA youth have recently been a visible young Jewish presence in actions for climate justice, racial and immigration justice, the black lives matter movement, criminal justice, LGBT rights and so many other causes.
As a small organization, JYCA relies on the support of our community to continue to train and empower youth year after year. As and alumni and board member, I have a personal goal of raising $800 and I am asking you all as my community to support me in meeting this goal. With our small budget, any donation goes a long way.
Please support JYCA by donating any amount you can to support the next generation of young activists and leaders. (Your donation is tax deductible)
Thank you and twinkles!
