BENEFITING: Our Daily Bread Employment Centerfund Inc
As most of you know, I have been passionate about reducing inequality since I went to Bolivia when I was 16. This passion drove me through my undergraduate degree, and to Baltimore with Teach for America. However, the last three years I have been in the private sector (and now in grad school). While I cannot be in the classroom right now, I deeply know the need that students and their families in Baltimore face. The riots in Baltimore this spring hit me hard because I felt so helpless, with nothing I could do for the students I love. Although I cannot be there physically, I hope to make an impact by raising awareness of issues of racial inequality in the United States, and raise money for a great charity - Our Daily Bread (http://www.catholiccharities-md.org/our-daily-bread/). Our Daily Bread goes beyond the immediate needs of food and shelter, and also provides career training. It lives the allegory about teaching a man to fish. My next month will be dedicated to learning more, and training for the marathon on October 17th. I will post my training runs, as well as articles I read to keep me motivated. If you have an article I should know about, please send it my way. My goal is to raise $1000 and 100 conversations. If you have a conversation about racial inequality in the next month that you wouldn't have had without this, let me know, and I will keep track of them until we get to 100!
