In a world where talent is equally distributed, but opportunity is not, iMentor is fighting to rebalance the odds and give every young person a fair chance to realize their dreams.
Because I support iMentor's mission, I joined the program in March 2015. My mentee is Tyanna -- an outgoing, funny, and ambitious student from Brooklyn who hopes to become a nurse one day so that she can care for others in her community. It has been an incredible experience getting to know Tyanna over this past year, reassuring and encouraging her through obstacles faced, and I am proud to be her mentor. I know that come graduation, she will be ready to suceed in college and accomplish her goals.
While Tyanna and I have been supported by iMentor, thousands of other students in low-income communities have not been afforded this life-changing opportunity. Cost is an issue. It costs iMentor $1,000 to esure each mentor-mentee pair has access to quality curriculum, technology, and resources, which cover topics ranging from interview skills to student loans. To help iMentor make brighter futures for more kids, donate today!
iMentor matches college-educated mentors with high school students in low-income communities. Students work with their mentors one-on-one, in-person and online, to develop strong personal relationships, nurture a college aspiration, navigate the college application process, and build critical skills that lead to success.
The iMentor curriculum is proven to be successful:
- 75% of iMentor students enroll in college, compared to 50% nationally.
- 83% persist into their second year of college, compared to 66% of first-gen students nationally.
iMentor currently matches over 3,500 students in Brooklyn, Harlem, and the Bronx. The program plans to expand to Chicago and the Bay area, but needs financial support. Just $10 can help support our mission!
