Kaiya Needs Surgery
Organized by: E.g. Whitmire
EVENT DATE Aug 11, 2014
"Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole."
Kaiya is a Sheltie-Corgi mix who came into my life when she was just puppy. She was a little fluff ball of joy. So full of life; showering my family, friends & even strangers with an overwhelming amount of tail wags, hugs, kisses.
Now, a senior, Kaiya is still an active lover of life who enjoys running, chasing the cat and squirrels, riding in cars, going for walks, and giving high-5's. Unfortunately, now she is fighting a battle that could be fatal to her life if not treated.
Kaiya recently developed a thyroid tumor. The tumor is a large mass invading on her neck and voice box inhibiting her ability to eat, bark, and breath easily. Thyroid tumors in dogs are relatively uncommon and only 25-50% of those cases are candidates for surgery. Kaiya is a candidate for this surgery, and if the tumor is removed, with radiation therapy, she can return back to her normal life. Because of the delicate nature of the surgery, it is very costly and is estimated to cost roughly $3,500. The longer Kaiya goes without the surgery to remove the tumor, the greater the possibility of the tumor metastasizing, thereby making recovery more difficult.
As with any medical procedure, the cost of treatment is on the rise. Many families have been forced to give up their beloved pets due to the insurmountable costs for pet care. I refuse to be one of them. Kaiya has been my best friend, my confidant, and my child since the day I brought her home. She still has tons of personality and lots more love to give to those around her, and despite the tumor imposing on her neck, Kaiya is still trying to run and play with the cat and squirrels.
I am asking for your help and support with Kaiya's surgery. Please consider making a small donation--any amount will help. Please help Kaiya fight this battle.
