Kandace does the Schoolhouse Rock
Organized by: Kandace Arens
Hello! Thanks for stopping by!
As you may know, I was recently hired as a Drama and English high school teacher. HOORAY!!! This year, I'll be teaching two sections of English 10, teaching introductory and advanced Drama classes, and running the after-school drama program (which includes directing two shows and various other Drama Club shenanigans). It's actually my dream job, and I can't believe I am going to get to do it every day.
As a new teacher, there's a whole bunch of stuff that I need to keep my year running smoothly and to make my classroom look spiffy! For example, I need things like binders and file folders, colored paper, colored pens, classroom markers sets, decorations, and art supplies. I also would like to update the classroom library with new books for the kids to be able to read and bins to organize the books in!
I've been volunteering and student teaching at this school since last year, and, let me tell you -- these are some of the most amazing kids I've met. They're hardworking, smart, and incredibly kind. I've already witnessed some incredible transformations in kids thanks to this program -- like students who decided they wanted to go to college after being in the play or students who survived being homeless and shared their stories in Creative Writing classes. I really want to breathe life and positive energy into my classroom through some new materials! With your help, I will be able to put fresh supplies in an aging classroom.
Since I've been spending my summer (and the last year or so!) finishing my Master's in Teaching at WWU, my discretionary spending levels are ...well, pretty low. (I graduate with honors on August 23, by the way! Woohoo!) In leiu of a graduation gift, I thought it would be amazing if my friends and family would be able to help me set up my classroom! Would you be willing to chip in $5 or $10?
As a thank-you, I will send you a photo of me in my new classroom and a thank-you card! I can even video chat with you in my new classroom to show it off. :)
I'm so grateful and excited for this new opportunity in my life. Thank you for anything you can spare!
P.S. This picture is the cast photo from the Spring Musical that I co-directed. I chaperoned our group's trip to the State Thespian Convention, where we competed and won Top 15% in Washington State! Not to mention it's the most amazing, fabulous, hardest-working group of kids I know. Love them!
