Kandy International Film Festival
The Kandy Film Festival will be a four-day celebration of global cinema, with a special focus on Asian film and upcoming talent, in the UNESCO world heritage city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. Against a stunning background of gardens, hilltops and cultural architecture, the Festival will showcase an exciting program of films celebrating diverse techniques, styles and themes relevant to the region. KIFF hopes to introduce regional films that merit exposure but might have been overlooked, to a global audience through its networks and partnerships.
Ultimately, the Festival is designed to generate an inclusive and tolerant environment to allow a close-knit and passionate artistic community, including Sri Lankan students and youth, to engage in debate, dialogue and be inspired by the power of film to understand the human experience.
Student Film Labs
Additionally, as part of its outreach efforts, KIFF will select six area schools from across the island to participate in its Student Film Labs, a landmark program to be run by international and local filmmakers. Youth participants will attend a week-long intensive workshop that will train them in the art of storytelling, while encouraging team building.
We Need Your Support!
It'd be no fun to turn up at the film festival without a movie screen, so we're asking for your help the OACF get all the bags on the plane! Our estimation is that we'd need about $2000 to get the inflatable screen, speakers, projectors to Kandy and back home. If we can raise the funds the Open Air Cinema Foundation (OACF) will fly a full outdoor cinema system and two AV technicians to Kandy for use in the beautiful Sarachchandra open air ampitheatre.
If you help us out, we'll be sure to post your name(s) as official supporters of the open air screenings in Kandy.
