Kansas City Black Urban Growers (KCBUGS)
Organized by: KC Black Urban Growers
KCBUGS (Kansas City Black Urban Growers) are a small group of black/brown urban farmers/growers/gardeners who represent grass roots urban-agriculture mobilization and commerce in the Greater Kansas City area. This group of male and female growers cover of a wide age spectrum, as well as experience levels.
Some of us have farmed or gardened for over 40 years and we provide a wealth of information and experiential learning to various communities across Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas. There are growers amongst us who are new and others who are establishing creative operations that both have a business component and a community education/advocacy component.
The National Black Farmers and Urban Gardeners conference is a gathering to enhance the critical relationship between food systems and health in the black community by empowering growers, chefs, eaters and activists. This year, the BUGS conference will be held in Oakland, CA at Laney College and the KCBUGS are trying to get there. Your donations will allow our growers to build networks and community support for growers in both urban and rural settings, and through educational workshops, we will be able to ensure that we have a seat at the table so that we can together develop our skills, our leadership, and our networks to become excellent and effective growers, business owners, community leaders, educators and advocates.
