In 2006, I discovered a lump in my left breast which was eventually diagnosed as cancer. Like many other people, I had thought that I would never receive such a diagnosis, but receive it I did. At that time I opted for only a lumpectomy. Then in 2009, I got another call notifying me that the cancer had returned. My sister Connie was visiting me at that time, and after she returned to her home in Florida, she scheduled a mammogram for herself. Not only did they find that she, too, had breast cancer but they also discovered she had endometrial cancer as well.
As I was recovering from a bilateral mastectomy, Connie was beginning her treatment: first, radiation; then a hysterectomy; and finally, chemotherapy. While Connie was undergoing her year long series of treatments, we spent many hours each day on Skype, praying and reading Scripture.
Connie lost her job, and her husband was laid-off from his during her recovery. With the loss of income, and the bad economy in Florida at that time, they were both forced into early retirement. It was agony watching them lose their home and try to get back on their feet. I wish there had been a PinkFund for Connie.
I am so thrilled to participate in “Dancing with Survivors” to raise funds for ladies like my sister. Please purchase your ticket for September 29th and hit that “donate button” on the right of the screen. Don’t forget...it could happen to you!
God Bless you,
