Our son Jason began a school for girls of poverty outside Nanyuki, Kenya in 2009. Though all of the school's students had incredible grades in primary school, none of Daraja Academy's 77 students would have been able to attend high school without assistance. Some come from the rural countryside, others grew up in the over-crowded slums of Nairobi... NONE of them had money, in fact not a single girl grew up with running water in her home. But, ALL shared a common quality: the deep seeded desire to improve themselves!
Jack and I first met Pascalina (in many of the pictures to the left) last October while visiting the campus, however, we'd been communicating with her for almost a year before that. We have been sponsoring her at Daraja Academy. She is smart, driven, curious, beautiful and frankly deserved our help. Saying goodbye after our month with her and her classmates was difficult.
When we heard about the DARAJA RACE FOR 77, Jack and I knew that we would take part, and together with Pascalina, raise awareness and funding for this remarkable girl and her classmates. Jack and a large group of Daraja Academy supporters will begin running in the Bay To Breakers on the morning of May 15th, I will be cheering, and on the otherside of the globe in the Kenyan twilight Pascalina and her classmates will begin running at the same time to help the school that has given them so much.
Far ahead of Jack, Lineth Chepkurui (2008 and 2010 Bay To Breakers female champion) will also be proudly running for Daraja Academy. Lineth is from Bomet, Kenya, both of her parents are teachers and she understands the need for a school like Daraja where bright girls can recieve a quality education.
100% of the money raised in the DARAJA RACE FOR 77 goes to Pascalina and her fellow students education. This gives the girls of Daraja Academy the chance to help contibute to their own education.
Jack and I both believe in Daraja Academy and are supporting it and its sweet students through the DARAJA RACE FOR 77... Pascalina believes and will be supporting it as she runs during the night for her school in Kenya... Lineth Chepkurui believes in the school and is running for Daraja and attempting to win the Bay To Breakers a 3rd time!!!
If you believe that girls deserve an equal opportunity and an education it is time to join our team!!!
Please join us and help us to raise our goal and help this magical girl and her school!!!
