EVENT DATE: Nov 03, 2013
As you may or may not know, the NYC Marathon was cancelled last year for the first time in history due to hurricane Sandy. However, I was one of the very lucky ones that had the extreme good fortune of finding out about the Run Anyway Marathon that was being run in Central Park in place of the official NYC Marathon. It was put together at the last minute and was communicated through social media by a young preacher. The thought was that those who had signed up to run the official marathon in honor of a charity, could "finish what we started". And that is exactly what we did, in addition to raising money and supplies for the desperate victims of the hurricane. It was one of the most incredible experiences of my life!
There was no question I was going to run the NYC Marathon this year and try to top my fund raising efforts of $14,000 for breast cancer research until I suffered a nasty stress fracture in my pelvis in late spring. My ability to train at all was questionable for weeks and has been a real struggle with but I was able to get back on track and will in fact be running the 26.2 mile race on November 3rd.
I didn't feel right about asking people for donations if I did not feel I could keep up my end of the deal. But now that I know I can, I decided I would be doing a disservice if I did not make a last ditch effort to raise money for a cause too near and dear to my own heart. So I am once again running for the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Center, a facility in NY that is dedicated to finding a cure for the disease. I would very much appreciate you considering a donation to the cause, 100% of which goes to funding research.
If for some reason you are not comfortable in making a donation through this web site, you can certainly send it to me directly and I will be happy to forward it on. You can contact me on Facebook or at firstname.lastname@example.org
