BENEFITING: AUTISM SPEAKS
EVENT DATE: Mar 20, 2011
Autism affects 1 in 110 children, 1 in 70 boys. Those numbers are scary, and I bet many of you are personally affected by this challenge.
The charity I chose is dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.
Training to run 26.2 miles hasn't been easy. It's time intensive and physically and emotionally draining. I hope that with all my hard work, I can encourage others to get out and exercise when they think they physically can't. I hope to raise awareness about how prevalent Autism is in our society, and raise funds to help with research and support. I hope to affect you -- to get that itch to get up and do something.
There are many forms and spectrums of Autism, but if you want to read about it, this link is helpful: http://www.autismspeaks.org/whatisit/index.php
Thanks, from the bottom of my heart.
Hope to see you at the LA Marathon, March 20, 2011!
