Dear Friends, Just a quick …
Dear Friends,

Just a quick note to thank you for supporting the Navy SEAL Foundation and our Polar Circle Marathon team.

It was an incredible event and one of the hardest physical challenges I've undertaken. We faced 50 knot winds and -30F windchill on the Polar Cap, and a lot of hills and ice throughout. I'm proud to report that our team had a 100% completion rate on the Polar Circle Marathon. Yours truly finished 19th overall (and 2nd among the Americans) out of ~150 finishers. Our times the next day for the Half Marathon were even slower, but we finished.

Collectively, the folks on this email chain have donated over $30k to the Foundation. You were all my teammates up North and I thought of each of you during the race. I'd also like to tell you about another American I thought of during those 39.3 miles.

The day before our team flew to Greenland, a former SEAL who now works in a paramilitary role for another US government agency stepped on a landmine in Afghanistan and lost both of his legs. He was a friend and colleague to several of the Special Forces veterans on our team. Your generous support will help him and his family as they begin an arduous recovery and transition, as well as other Navy Special Warfare personnel who have made similar sacrifices. I can tell you that when I was suffering a bit on those last few miles, I kept thinking of how I didn't want to let any of you down, and how lucky I am to have my legs and be able to run.

I am humbled to have been part of this team, proud to have accomplished an incredibly difficult race, and honored by your support of this worthy cause.

Thank you all.

With much gratitude,
JGA
