THE STORY:

My name is Katelyn Ingersoll, and I will be graduating in May with a B.A. in Anthropology, an area of emphasis in Cultural Resource and Heritage Management, and a certificate in Museum Studies. I have had a very busy three years at the University of Iowa holding positions relevant to my major at the Office of the State Archaeologist and in the Anthropology Department, participating in the collegiate cycling scene as a member of the University of Iowa Cycling Club, conducting honors research on a Late Roman burial site in central Sicily, and paying for most of it by driving a 40 foot long transit bus!

Charity has always been a part of my life but with all the stresses of college and adulthood it is easy to lose perspective. I have worked to preserve this perspective as coordinator of Monster Mash Grocery Dash, the Cycling Club’s annual benefit ride which collects food items and products for a local nonprofit pantry, and now as the Student Coordinator for Peak 4 Poverty.

Peak 4 Poverty is a Des Moines-based nonprofit which aims to end the cycle of poverty in Africa “One Child at a Time” through, one of my passions, education. We do this by leading hiking, backpacking and climbing trips, in the US and internationally, which raise funds to provide scholarships for children from 6 Tanzanian orphanages. On our trip, my team and I will be spending time volunteering at one of these orphanages, the Kilimanjaro Orphanage, as well as scaling the tallest free-standing mountain in the world, Mt. Kilimanjaro!
I am thrilled to be involved with a charitable organization that supports two huge passions of mine, education and travel. The only thing standing in the way of this incredible opportunity is five hundred dollars….and a few final exams, and the completion of my thesis, oh and graduation! Your backing could mean turning this opportunity into a reality.

Words cannot describe how amazing it would be to round out a very hectic senior year on the summit of Kilimanjaro, nor could they describe my thanks to you for helping get me there. Thank you so much for taking to time to read my proposal.

Sincerely,
Katelyn Ingersoll
