My name is Katherine (Kate) Schneider, and I am honored to be running the 2014 Boston Marathon as part of "Team Framingham"! I am excited to represent my town and to support an amazing organization, the Pearl Street Cupboard & Cafe. The Pearl Street Cupboard and Café, run by the United Way of Tri-County, currently serves over 2000 households each month, and the need continues to grow.
So why did I choose to raise funds for Pearl Street Cupboard & Café? The seeds of my choice were planted last September, when my children and I donated 44 non-perishable items in honor of Bill, husband of my college roommate, Amy, who had passed away the year before at age 44. As we walked through the store choosing our items, we had a long conversation about food and what it must feel like to not know where your next meal would come from. It inspired me to think deeply about what it meant to be a neighbor, and how I could do more to help.
This October, I coordinated a food drive for Pearl St. at my daughter’s preschool. When I delivered the food, I got to meet Joe Mina, the pantry director, and some of his dedicated volunteers. Since then, I have started volunteering weekly at Pearl St., and have seen firsthand the amazing work they do for Framingham’s seniors and families, many with young children.
I am thankful for your contributions to help feed my neighbors in Framingham, and I can't wait to represent Framingham on April 21st, 2014!!
