Kate's Life Preserving $300K Drug
Organized by: Kate Kilroy
Kate is a true champion. She has lived years with cystic fibrosis. It makes it impossible for her to work, and she is constantly in the hospital for treatments. She is behind in her medical bills, and the 4500 calorie daily diet she needs to maintain her weight means groceries are expensive. Kate has an opportunity to receive a drug that treats the underlying cause of Cystic Fibrosis, which ultimately eliminates the symptoms. Symptons like: A persistent cough that produces thick (sputum) mucus Wheezing Breathlessness Exercise intolerance Repeated lung infections Inflamed nasal passages or a stuffy nose Symptoms that cause Doctors to have to insert picc lines into her chest. She'll be able to breathe, work, and exercise. This drug, however, is $300,000 a year. Incredibly expensive. It is highly unlikely that her insurance will cover all of the costs of this medication. But without it, her only chance at surviving would be an inevitable lung transplant.
