EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2013
This past summer we lost one of our dear friends from Boston University to cancer. Her name was Kate and she was 35 years old. Kate was a part of the athletic training program with us and she was probably one of the hardest working individuals I've ever known. Kate had a huge impact on my life and she was a true inspiration. You always felt better about yourself after having spent time with her. Kate was one of the people that you always strove to be like because no matter what was going on in her life, she seemed to always be in control and she always seemed to have a plan. Her life revolved around fitness. She never smoked, did drugs and rarely drank alcohol yet she was a victim of this terrible disease. As an athletic trainer, I spend many hours helping athletes condition themsleves and rehabilitate their injuries to return to play. It was extremely disheartening watching Kate succumb to this disease and not be able to do anything to help her recover.
This April, I along with Jeff Breese and Jason Williams (two of my classmates from BU) will be running the Boston Marathon to raise money for the American Cancer Society. We are running to honor the memories of all the friends and family members we have lost to this horrible disease. Sadly, Kate is the second friend in her 30's who I have lost to cancer within the last 6 years.
My favor is this, If you or any of your friends or family know someone who has lost a courageous battle to cancer, please consider making a donation in their name
