Kate's Medical Mission Trip
Organized by: Kate Lavinio
As part of my final semester of nursing school, I have the exciting opportunity to participate in a medical mission trip in collaboration with the Foundation for Peace. Foundation for Peace is a non-profit organization that serves dozens of communities in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Kenya. I have the opportunity to travel to the Dominican Republic to work alongside Foundation for Peace as a Rutgers School of Nursing student in a Service Leadership Program and health promotion project.
From November 17 to the 22, a group of my fellow nursing students, school faculty and I will be operating nurse-managed clinics in underserved areas. These clinics will serve between 300 and 700 people a day in an effort to improve health promotion and chronic disease management. We will have the opportunity to travel within these impoverished communities and to make home health visits to those unable to travel. We will supply families with basic health supplies, toiletries, medication and the education necessary to prevent the continued prevalence of fungus and parasites, along with a variety of other health conditions that exist within this population.
I am asking for your help to sponsor my trip to the Dominican Republic. Your generosity will greatly impact my life and new career as a nurse while changing lives in the Dominican Republic!
