As many of you know, my mother Clare was diagnosed in May of 2005 with stage 4 Ovarian Cancer. She was told by the oncology board that she had 6 months to live and should endeavor to get her affairs in order. Clare was a tenacious woman and did not accept that timeline; she defied it and fought the disease until November of 2011. My mother, ever the optimist and caregiver, when given the opportunity to complain, she would simply dismiss her woes and point out the young families who had to experience the tragedy of a child with cancer. I am running in memory of my mother and to help those families she believed to be most in need of support.
