BENEFITING: Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
EVENT DATE: Jul 16, 2016
While Katherine may still be too young to understand the idea of donation, and helping those people less fortunate, we were invited to a 6th birthday party earlier this month, and on the invitation we were asked to make an online donation to a charity of the families choosing. It touched us, and while we think a lot about helping others during the holiday season, it would also appear, that birthdays are another time that we might think to share our good fortune with those in need of some help. While Katherine is definitely looking forward to opening birthday gifts (she is turning 4 after all), at some point there is too much, and I'm hoping to somehow share the generosity that is given to my kids from all of you, with people who need it more. I dont know if the way we are doing it this year is the most effective, but it's what we thought worked the best. There are hundreds of worthwhile causes and charities, and to pick one is nearly impossible, however, Cystic Fibrosis hits close to home this year. It with this in mind that I feel compelled to choose the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as the charity of choice for Katherine's 4th birthday. After a cursory search, I found out on charitywatch.org, that this particular charity received an A- rating, and while there is room for improvement with that rating, it still ranks among the best as far as % of money going to the cause.
This is a very new concept to me, and again, I dont know the best way to go about fullfilling the goal. You could choose to simply donate instead of purchasing a gift. You could choose to split what you would have spent on a gift and instead buy a small gift or a small "Toys R Us" gift card and then also make a donation - that way a lump sum goes directly to charity and Katherine would still get to open presents and/or also get to go on a mini toy shopping spree with all her gift cards.... or you can simply forget donating all togeher.... its really whatever you prefer. From the bottom of our hearts, I thank you for taking the time to read all of this, as well as your consideration.
Hope to see you at the party!
