BENEFITING: Pulmonary Hypertension Association Inc
EVENT: PH Awareness Month 2015
Kathleen Richardson wrote -OK...Deep breath...I'm going for it! I'm taking the challenge to ride my bicycle 100 miles in the Horrible Hundred Ride here in Central Florida on November 15th. Riding has been my way of fighting Pulmonary Hypertension (a rare disease that affects the lungs and heart) since the early days of my PH diagnosis 14 years ago. Back then, I didn't know if I would still be breathing today much less riding my bike. At that time there were only 3 treatments for PH and the prognosis after diagnosis was grim. I am hugely thankful to the Lord for sustaining my health and for the PHA and health professionals who have been working tirelessly to find new and better treatments and find a cure for PH!!! Now, after 14 years, there are 12 treatments available to PH patients! The prognosis is better, but there still is no cure and the disease is debilitating for many. There is still much work to be done. I attribute how well I am doing to the Lord, to EARLY diagnosis, and to successful treatment (and a conservative, Dr. prescribed exercise plan). I want to raise awareness about this disease so that more PH patients are diagnosed early and are able to find the right treatment quickly and enjoy a better quality of life.... and a longer life. I'd love for you to join me in this effort. Please consider donating to the PHA (how about sponsoring me a certain amount per mile?) and sharing my page so that more people can become aware of PH and the PHA and join in the fight for a cure!
