Welcome to my fundraising page! The time has come!! I am training for my first marathon, the San Francisco Marathon, on Sunday, July 26th, 2015. While I am putting my miles in, I do not expect this to be an easy race - SF hills are always an obstacle!
With that said, I want to dedicate my race and birthday miles to an issue that literally connects the world -- water. In my home state, California is facing its worst drought on record, with snowpack levels well below normal. Across the world, 1 Billion people lack access to clean water. Clean water impacts so many areas of life including health, income, and education - especially for women and kids (CharityWater.org). We can do something about it!
I feel incredibly fortunate to have such abundant access to water to sustain me on my run. Please join me in supporting Charity:Water in their mission to provide clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations.
Things I'd like to let you know before you give:
1) $20 can give one person clean, safe drinking water for 20 years. A water project costs an average of $5,000 and can serve a community of 250 people.
2) 100% of your donation goes directly to the field. A separate group of private donors fund the operating costs so you don't have to.
3) charity: water is a 501(c)(3). Gifts are tax deductible. 100% of your donation is tax-deductible as a charitable contribution.
My fundraising goal is $1000. My suggestion: $26! Although ANY amount is greatly appreciated.
As an added bonus, I will be hosting a donor "carb up" luncheon at my humble apartment in San Francisco prior to the race -- a pasta and parmesan chicken (or eggplant)!
