BENEFITING: Fairmount Park Conservancy
EVENT DATE: May 01, 2016
When I saw that I could run Broad Street for the Fairmount Park Conservancy, something just clicked. Iconic Philly race. One of my favorite nonprofits in Philly. A serious goal to keep me, a very tentative new runner, moving forward. It just made sense. So while I was somewhat terrified to commit to this (both the running and the fundraising!), I am doing it anyway!
Why do I love the Fairmount Park Conservancy so much, you ask? Because I love our city's PARKS so much! Some of my favorite moments in this city have taken place in parks big and small. Green spaces and public spaces are one of our most precious resources, and they thrive due to the tremendous stewardship on the part of the Fairmount Park Conservancy's staff. Whether it's organizing accessible events to connect diverse residents TO our parks, or doing the tireless behind-the-scenes advocacy to keep those green spaces going strong, our city wouldn't be as great without them. Over the years, in my work with the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, I've been fortunate enough to collaborate with Fairmount Park Conservancy on some bike events here and there (see photo above -- from a Women Bike PHL bike ride to the Philly Pumptrack in West Fairmount Park in 2015!), and I've personally been a proud Fairmount Park Conservancy member for several years now. With this run (not a race...just trying to finish it and not be dead, folks) I'm excited to be able to support Fairmount Park Conservancy in an even deeper way.
ANY contribution will be so appreciated -- it'll keep me motivated to train, and it'll all go directly toward supporting OUR parks here in Philadelphia -- resources we all use and love!
I want to use this experience as an opportunity to make it to some parks I haven't seen before in Philly -- one of the things I've learned from the Fairmount Park Conservancy is just how many there are that I had never heard of before! Follow me on Instagram @cmon_roe for updates on my training (I'll try not to whine too much!) and maybe some peeks at parks you might not have heard of, either!
Thanks, y'all. This is crazy! But I'm so pumped!
