Thank you, Dougie (3 years +) and Beryl (1 year +) Broadwater for supporting me and giving to iMentor. Even though you don't yet make money, See more
If you want to help me, please help me raise $1,000 for iMentor. In the process, you'll be helping kids who don't have the same educational opportunities as my little munchkins. I recently went through the arduous and insane process of enrolling my two year old son, Teddy, into a Brooklyn preschool. The process involved hundreds of tiny steps: research, registration, school tours, applications, thank you notes, and more. I knew what to do; but, it was still hard, and this was just preschool! There are so many kids who live in the same city as me but don't have the same opportunities as my boys -- they live in a poorer neighborhood, aren't white, are the first in their families to apply to college, and so many other reasons that make it so much harder. That inequity deeply bothers me, and I hope it bothers you too, at least enough to support this cause. I work at iMentor as Chief External Officer. We are harnessing the power of mentoring to dramatically improve graduation rates among first-generation college students. We match every student in our partner high schools with a college-educated mentor. We then equip every mentor with the tools and support they need to effectively guide their mentees toward college success. The majority of our students will be the first in their families to attend and graduate college. Having a personal champion to help them through their journey can change everything. At iMentor, we are powering college success with thousands of committed adults every year who help close the gap between a young person's potential and the chance to pursue his ambitions. In a world where talent is equally distributed, but opportunity is not, iMentor is fighting to rebalance the odds and give every young person a fair chance to realize their dreams. At iMentor, we believe -- and I personally believe -- that every student deserves a champion. I can be that champion for Teddy and Sam, from preschool beyond. I want to help kids who aren't as lucky as my boys have their own champion. If you believe in and support me - if you're my champion -- then, please give to iMentor.
