The following is written by one of Katies great friends Monica, and I completely agree with every word. Katie really is such a pleasure to be around. Her courage and attidude towards life motivates me. Her smile is a breath of fresh air, she is truly one of the kindest people I have had the pleasure to know.
Katie Corey is an amazing friend. Anyone that knows her can say this is true! For the short 1 ½ years that I have known her, she has been the most amazing friend that I could ever dream of. Her laugh is the sweetest sound anyone has ever heard!
Katie was diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) in December 2009. She went through radiation & chemotherapy. After a great scan, there was not a trace of her cancer. In late August 2010, just 3 months after treatment, Katie found that her cancer had returned.
Leiomyosarcoma is a relatively rare form of cancer, and accounts for between 5–10% of soft tissue sarcomas, which are in themselves relatively rare. Leiomyosarcomas can be very unpredictable. They can remain dormant for long periods of time and recur after years. It is a resistant cancer, meaning generally not very responsive to chemotherapy or radiation
Since Katie’s cancer has returned in August of 2010, it has spread to numerous parts of her body, including 2 tumors in her head. Katie has never given up hope or the fight. She has gone through many radiation & chemo treatments. She has an amazing team of Doctors that do not give up on her.
From the very beginning, this cancer has been unpredictable. Katie ignores all odds & percentages & lives her life to the fullest everyday! Cancer does not define Katie…..love, laughter, hope, courage & the joy of life is what defines this amazing friend! Her hope & courage has become our forever inspiration.
Because of the progression of this cancer, her treatments, & the pain that she endures each day, Katie has not been able to work as much as she would like to financially take care of her needs. This fundraiser can give her the financial security that she needs to continue her fight to stop this cancer from spreading.

If any of you know Katie the way that I do, you know how much of a sweet heart she is, and even if you don't know her, just take mine and Monicas word for it. Let's help her out and give her a Christmas season to remember!
