BENEFITING: Alzheimer's Association
EVENT DATE: Sep 20, 2014
One of the items on my bucket list is to participate in a triathlon. One day talking with the Rivermen Coaches they brought up the fact that they were going to participate in the 2014 Oak Run mini triathlon, so I said sign me up I am in!
The next day I started my training and have never looked back. I can't wait to participate in the race not only to cross off an item on my bucket list but to hopefully find another new passion in my life.
Because this is my first race I thought I would add another element to the race by fundraising for a very important cause in my life the Alzheimer's Association! My Grandma lost her battle with Alzheimer's 6 years ago. I have to say that her case of Alzheimer's was fortunate as I don't think she ever got to the point where she stopped remembering who we were, but she could not remember something that you said to her 3 minutes earlier. I miss her everyday and I wish that there was a cure so that she did not have to suffer the way that she did.
Last year I participated in my first Walk to End Alzheimer's in Peoria and I was so touched and moved I joined the walk committee. It doesn't seem like much but everyday I am able to get the word out about what the Alzheimer's Association is a day that we are able to move closer to finding a cure.
I hope that you will be able to join me in the cause and help me run this race in honor of my Grandma, Nancy Kerr. God Bless!
