Help Katie Get to the UN Climate Negotiations
Organized by: Katie Gibson
EVENT DATE Nov 26, 2015
I will be attending the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties (or COP 21), a critical annual conference to develop international climate policy, held this year in Paris.
This year is the BIG ONE, where a new climate accord will come to fruition after 20 years of negotiations, to replace the Kyoto Protocol and set the framework for nations to work cooperatively to staunch climate-disrupting emissions, support communities facing climate disasters, and pave the way for a more sustainable, socially just, and environmentally responsible future.
I will be going with 19 other delegates from the Sierra Student Coalition (part of the Sierra Club) representing the youth environmental movement in the United States, to put pressure on negotiators and to raise awareness about the progress of the negotiations back home.
I have also been invited to attend the Intersessional meetings of the COP in Bonn this October, where key elements of the accord will be decided to pave the way towards Paris.
But I need your help to get there!
Your gift will help with travel expenses and housing for the duration of the COP, which is November 30 - December 12, as well as the Bonn Intersessionals, the third week of October.
