EVENT DATE: Sep 09, 2017
Our mission is to raise awareness about asbestos-caused Mesothelioma and to raise money for research to fight this rare cancer. Monies raised will be donated to Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation.
My name is Mark Wells and my daughter Linda was diagnosed with Peritoneal Mesothelioma. For several years now she has been battling this very rare cancer. She is the youngest person I have ever heard of being diagnosed with this cancer. She has endured several major surgeries and several rounds of chemotherapy. There is no known cure for Mesothelioma and research funding has lagged far behind other cancer research. My daughter’s condition has seemed hopeless and my mission now is to raise awareness and donations to help fight this rare cancer thru research.
Our annual event will be to kayak down the Hudson River from Admiral’s Marina in Stillwater, NY, thru Mechanicville and ending at the Halfmoon Lighthouse Park in Waterford, NY. We are looking for people to participate in this event, either by paddling with us down the Hudson River or joining us at the end at the Halfmoon Lighthouse Park. This will be approximately an 8 mile paddle, going thru Lock 4, Lock3, and Lock 2. We anticipate it will take between 3 & 3 1/2 hours. This will be a one way paddle.
Shuttle buses will be provided in the morning so your car is at the end of the paddle.
You can also help by sponsoring a kayaker and joining us at the Halfmoon Lighthouse Park from 1:00 to 4:00. You can join the festivities with us as we wait for all the kayakers to arrive.
The Town of Halfmoon is hosting the festivities at the Halfmoon Lighthouse Park. Food and refreshments will be available at the park.
