BENEFITING: PENCILS OF PROMISE INCORPORATED
My name is Kayla Hanley and I attend Loyola University Chicago. I am studying Social Work and my dream is to work in developing countries with children in poverty.
Currently, about 75 million children – more than half of them being girls – have no opportunity to attend primary school, while one in three children in Africa that are enrolled in school drop out of primary education. With the exponential growth rate of 75 million people being adding to the planet each year, the number of children without the opportunity to achieve an education will only increase if no action is taken. By 2050, with this growth rate, it is expected that the global population will be around 11 billion, with 7.8 billion people in living in poverty (that is almost one billion more people that are on the planet today!)
Pencils of Promise is a non-for-profit organization that is taking the necessary action! They build schools in developing countries so underprivileged children can get an education that they would not be available to obtain otherwise. And I want to help. I have currently discovered the opportunity to create a Campus Group for Pencils of Promise where a group of students would fundraise and advocate for this great cause. I need to take the beginning steps of building a club on my campus, one being to talk to administration, before the Campus Group can become official. What would really help the development of this group would be to have already fundraised some money on my own - this way I can show my University what I have done by myself and from there, show them the potential of what a whole group of dedicated students can do.
So, this is where you come in. If you could donate any amount of money, you would not only being helping the lives of underprivileged children, but you would be supporting the growth of a Campus Group that would allow for more and more money to be raised. Any amount would help - A donation as small as $25 can educate one child for a year! Thank you!
