Every dollar raised by KCADV during the Purple Purse Challenge will go directly to the Emergency Fund, one component of our Economic Empowerment Program that offers emergency assistance to domestic violence survivors when they are struggling to make a monthly payment because of a crisis or unexpected expense (e.g. car repair, eviction, utility shut-off notice or attorney fees.)
In 2016, KCADV provided more than $31,000 in emergency assistance to 91 DV survivors, an average of $340 per request. The majority (82%) of these funds were used for housing costs such as security deposits, utility deposits and rental assistance, and to fix vehicles.
For domestic violence survivors, an unexpected, emergency expense can have devastating consequences. Our goal is to provide a safety net so survivors can stay employed and housed. Your donation will fill a critical need to help survivors continue the path to safety and self-sufficiency.
