BENEFITING: AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY
EVENT DATE: Sep 29, 2011
Basically, cancer sucks!
About a year ago, my friend Michelle and I started planning a rocking trip to Tanzania. We got the crazy idea to hike to the peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Mt. Kili is the world's highest freestanding mountain! It stands at 19, 298 feet tall. That is HUGE!
Then Michelle and I decided it would be even cooler if we could do something even more awesome than climb a mountain, like cure cancer. So we decided to have an auction (and of course, a friendly fundraising competition!)
I am selling or "auctioning" each foot of my climb up to the top! You can sponsor my climb and all the funds go to the American Cancer Society (your donation is tax deductible). If you want something crazy done with the steps you sponsor (ie you want a photo of me doing a jig at your mile marker or you want your favorite hat to make the climb) I will see what I can do to make it happen.
Let's face it, I am doing the hardest part but it is the least important part. Ya'll are the key to making this a success. So skip your latte, sell your old CD's, or get a newspaper route. Whatever you have to do, try to make a donation to make a difference.
Cancer has touched nearly everyone in someway and we can help make sure it keeps its icky paws to itself.
I wanted to give a special shout out to our dear friend, Amy. She is a friend and fellow traveler and one fierce chick! She is also a cancer ninja and because of her breast cancer did not stand a chance.
So here is the specifics:
We will be climbing the Marangu Route over six days. If you want to play along, please write in the comments which steps you want to purchase when you donate, i.e. I want the purchase the first step or I want 25 steps on the first day. I'll list the names in the trail outline. If you don't want to select steps, I will randomly assign them to you. And if you don't want to play at all, feel free to remain anonymous and I will credit Anon with some steps.
Please note that all expenses related to the trip are being paid by Michelle and myself. The money donated here goes directly to the American Cancer Society minus a 7.5% fee the website charges for maintenence, transaction fees, etc. Here's how it works: http://www.crowdrise.com/about/how-it-works.
FIRST STEP of the hike (starts at an elevation of 6251ft) --- $100 STACY NADLER
