Long Version:

CANstruction is an annual event involving high school and college students, political and community and business leaders — all united in a project that not only fosters creativity but raises awareness of the continuing problem of hunger. Members of the Kearny High School Engineering Club will design and assemble the structures, using canned goods donated by local businesses, crowdfunding sites, and organizations. And after it happens, all that food will go to the needy. Since the inaugural Kearny CANstruction in 2012, nearly 102,000 cans have been contributed in total to Salvation Army, St. John’s soup kitchen, Apostles house & shelter, pantries from St. Cecilia’s Church, St. Stephen’s Church, and Kearny’s first Presbyterian Church. Students have added a 7th pantry this year, just started in town, “Kearny Community Food Pantry.”
