Kedoshim: Heeding the Call to Help the Hungry

This started as a Bar Mitzvah project based on my Torah portion, "Kedoshim." That portion contains laws that are intended to make each of us more holy, such as: Honoring your Father and Mother; Not putting obstacles in the way of the blind; Judging people fairly, and Not holding a worker's wages over the weekend, etc. The specific rules of life that I chose to focus on during my Bar Mitzvah was the following, which is found in verses 9 and 10 of Chapter 19 of the Book of Leviticus:

9. "When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not fully reap the corner of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest.
10. And you shall not glean your vineyard, nor shall you collect the [fallen] individual grapes of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and the stranger. I am the Lord, your God.

Based on these rules, I organized a program combining volunteering and donations to support our local food bank - Feeding America Tampa Bay. The response was so positive during my Bar Mitzvah (which took place last weekend) that I want to continue the project and grow it to the next level.
