Kedougou Tree Planting 2015
Organized by: Anna French
We hope to raise funds for the second annual Kédougou community tree planting day in July. Like many other areas in Sub-Saharan Africa, the Kédougou region, and the regional capital has seen a large amount of recent deforestation. In the urban area of Kédougou, there has been much rapid development which has meant a lot of trees have been cut down. We are working to bring some beauty, shade, and fruit back into the city with this fundraiser. This fundraiser will help to provide supplies such as shovels and picks, as well as protective fencing for the out planted trees to stave off hungry goats and cows. The saplings will be provided by local farmers and work partners. The community tree planting will focus on city beautification, planting ornamental species and shade trees, as well as food security by planting fruit trees in community households.
