Keep Burrillville Beautiful
Organized by: Keep Burrillville Beautiful
Keep Burrillville Beautiful is a community of citizens against the unnecessary industrialization of our beautiful historic town by a proposed 1000 Megawatt gas & oil burning power plant. Burrillville, RI is a beautiful historic rural mill town in Northwest Rhode Island. A large energy company has proposed to clear cut hundreds of acres of beautiful forest and wetlands to construct a new $700M 1000 Megawatt Gas/Oil during power plant that will threaten the health and safety of our town and region. The power plant is officially classified by the EPA as a "Major Source" of pollution and according to the application will spew over 3 tons of hazardous pollutants a year and 3.6 Million tons of C02 in an area that has over 85 thriving environmental areas including; 20 significant bodies of water, 26 land conservation areas, 25 state recreation areas, 15 historic districts, as well as many local campgrounds for charities and other groups. All this in an area with over 90,000 people in surrounding communities. Imagine the impact to our health and local area by the construction of this massive facility over three years then the operation and lifetime of trucks keeping the 4 million gallon tanks full of oil on our small local historic roads. Our awareness and action campaign has been assisted so far by good people donating their time and money but we need additional funding to take our campaign to the next level. Any money raised will go directly toward items like signs, banners, flyers, local media advertising, web advertising, t-shirts, sponsoring family events, rallies, etc. Once we defeat the proposed plant and our lives return to normal we will donate any extra monies to the Burrillville Land Trust, a local non-profilt, to help them purchase land that will be protected forever.
