BENEFITING: Keep a Child Alive
ORGANIZER: Keep a Child Alive
EVENT: 2016 TCS NEW YORK CITY MARATHON
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
THE STORY:
On November 6, 2016, I will run my first Marathon, the New York City Marathon. I would like this race to benefit others – namely, children living with HIV.
Every day, 400 children are born with HIV, transmitted from their mothers during pregnancy, birth or breastfeeding. Medical treatment allows them to live normal lives in good health- but only 50% of HIV-infected children have access to treatment. Still, 290 children die of AIDS every day (UNAIDS 2015).
This is where Keep a Child Alive (KCA) comes in, an organization working in some of the countries hardest hit by the HIV epidemic. Their comprehensive care clinics ensure access to life-saving treatment for thousands of HIV-affected children, adolescents, and their parents in Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, South Africa, and India. In addition, KCA runs programs to assist HIV orphans; and to support children who have been sexually abused (the Ikageng Itireleng AIDS Ministry in Soweto and Operation Bobbi Bear in Durban, South Africa).
Contributing to the great work of this organization is easy: You can just click on the “Donate” button above to give a tax-deductible gift through a secure fundraising site. Please consider making a difference in the lives of thousands of children by supporting Keep a Child Alive.
With gratitude,
Djin-Ye
