Aja is a freshman at UMass Amherst that has run into some financial troubles. Aja had enough to pay for her first two months of tuition owed, but funds she thought were going to be available to her for the rest of the year didn't come to fruition. At the beginning of this month she began to apply for private loans with a co-signer. However, the co-signer's credit wasn't exactly "great" and they were routinely rejected. Aja has been trying to desperately find another, credit-worthy co-signer, but with no luck. Our current goal is to raise enough to cover the remainder of the semester - which is $4,367. I would hate for all her hard academic work thus far this semester to be for naught. In the meantime, Aja will work on how to pay for the rest of her freshman year (total remaining balance is $11,897).
Aja took FIVE AP tests her senior year in high school and actually had TWENTY credits entering college this year! She's practically a sophomore already!
Aja's major is Political Thought & Social Economy. Given the chance, I know Aja will make a positive impact in the world we live in.
Here is a summary of Aja's financial aid :
$1,500 in work study, $2,780 in Pell Grants, $400 from Federal supp Educ opp grant, $4,119 in UMass grant, $1,600 Perkins loan, $3,500 direct subsidized loan, $6,000 in unsub loans, and $500 in scholarship money.
And yes, Aja is working as many hours as she can at school. She will work during her entire winter break (she has a job where she worked this summer, waiting for her), too.
Please consider donating any amount you can. Weekly updates from Aja's UMass account will be posted here and on this fundraiser's Facebook page, as to assure all to the legitimacy of this campaign!
