Keeping Cradles Full In The Cradle of Civilization
Organized by: Pernell Celestine
EVENT DATE Apr 30, 2014
The Civic Engagement Trip to Peru is designed to provide participants the opportunity to serve women and children of the Andes Rainforest with a focus on prenatal and early childhood care. Prior to travel will organize donation of medical supplies and personal items for these women and children, and then deliver them personally to our host organization Inmed.
Additionally, students and faculty will learn about indigenous Peruvian culture through interaction with its distinct ethnic groups, including the Quechua and Uru during the 9 day expedition within three vastly different areas of the country. This includes homestays with families in Puno and Lake Titcaca.
In addition to providing service and learning about another culture, this program is designed to help student connect knowledge from academic programs to practical application of civic life. Participants’ majors include Human Service Management, Nursing, Architecture, and Business.
It is the hope that each traveler returns to the U.S. with a broadened world view, a desire to share their experience with others, and a yearning for continued community service.
