EVENT DATE Nov 07, 2014
Tracy and Oliver are a young mother and her three year old son. They both have a chronic medical condition known as CVS (cyclic vomiting syndrome). The condition is well controlled by a combination of prescription medications, but the combination is both expensive and also requires monthly doctor visits and new prescriptions. This is due to federal law controlling dispensing one of the medicines.
Without the insurance the total costs per month for the prescriptions and the two doctor visits is about $3000 per month, and if the medications are missed for more than a few days one or both of them are likely to suffer from an acute CVS attack (a cycle).
This not only leaves Oliver or Tracy in the emergency room or even worse occasionally admitted to the hospital, but inevitably ends up costing in the area of $15,000 or even more each time there is a flare up of the condition. Sometimes this happens as many as 3-4 times in a month occasionally needing multiple trips to the ER in one day.
The first month's payment which will retroactively cover October 2014 needs to be made before the second week of November so I have placed a deadline corresponding to this on the fundraiser. If this date is missed not will already owed bills not be paid, but eligibility for insurance coverage will be lost.
