BENEFITING: The Childrens Cancer Foundation, Inc.
HOURS PLEDGED: 55
When we lost Keith, I was first worried how heartbreaking it is for us to face Eric's upcoming birthday this year. The week after, Eric and I decided to plan a fundraiser for their birthday in honoring Keith.
Children's Cancer Foundation is the non-profit that Keith has benefited from when he got diagnosed with cancer at age 4. After he received the foundation's support and cured his caner, his mom, himself and Eric have always been a big supporter for the foundation.
I asked Eric: 'How about raising $10,000 to Children's Cancer Foundation by you guys birthday?' Before I knew it, Eric sent out a facebook event within a day. He is completely an inspiring leader by taking this on fully, sending heartfelt replies to every single message and keeping people up to date on the fundraising progress. Also, this seems to become a channel for himself, all friends and family to deliver their appreciation to Keith.
How Keith was being was pure love and generosity - who gave a homeless man a car, clothes and a place to go to for the last 3-4 years. He loved his friend's children as they are his own. He would often take a mentally disabled friend Paul to concerts just like he would do with other friends, and bring laughter to others with his humor.. etc. At the funeral, I was so moved and inspired by the stories I heard. It was obviously a great lost for everyone that they didn't get to say goodbye to him. Somehow, this birthday fundraiser provides an opportunity for people to honer Keith's birthday wish (if he had made one for this year) - that we could bring more fun to life, be truly generous to others, and love every child in the world.
What I am getting in the past month is a completely empowering world I never thought could be created after losing a person. Eric and his mom have been continuously creating their life within this enormous space of love and appreciation. And I am happy witnessing the man I love being inspired and inspiring others.
In one month, we have raised over $7000. I know this came out of who Keith, Eric and his mom have been being. To reach our original goal of $10,000 before the Fundation announce the dedication this Saturday, Oct 23 at their annual benefit event, I am requesting your support. Your donation not only helps us reaching the goal but proving that love and generosity can create anything.
